Introduction

There are many reasons why children and young people may need support to help them learn. The Education (Additional Support for Learning) (Scotland) Act 2004 came into force in November 2005. Read a summary of the Act

The Act promotes:

  • the concept of additional support needs
  • new duties on education authorities and other agencies
  • rights for parents
  • resolving differences between families and authorities, mediation, dispute resolution and the Additional Support Needs Tribunals.
