Introduction

The Scottish Government launched a consultation on 1 May 2008 on safeguarding rural schools and improving the way all school closures are handled, and wants Scottish parents to have their say. The consultation’s primary aim is to make sure the system for school closures is fair and open.

In the coming weeks, this section of the website will contain detailed information about the consultation, including:

  • a summary of the proposals / link to a copy of the consultation paper
  • the suggested definition of a rural school
  • public consultation events to discuss the proposals
  • information for Parent Councils
  • information on how you can have your say
  • a useful Q & A section

If you have any questions about the consultation, please email schoolclosure.consultation@scotland.gsi.gov.uk or phone 0131 244 0166.
